Conker’s Bad Fur Day (Re-Review)

Conker’s Bad Fur Day is a 3D platformer adventure game by Rare for the Nintendo 64. It’s rather special to me as it was the main reason I got back into reviewing video games after two failed iterations of game review series. That was about five years ago now, and upon replaying the game I feel like I’ve got a better grasp on how I feel about it. So as a celebration of my time reviewing games, I thought it’d be worth re-reviewing this one to see how it holds up now that all of the excitement has had time to die down and allow me to look at it with a more critical eye. Star Fox 64

Star Fox 64 is an on-rails space shooter for the Nintendo 64. It’s more or less a remake of the game Star Fox from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The basic plot is that, years ago, an evil scientist called Andross tried to take over the part of the galaxy known as the Lylat System. The Star Fox team, headed by James McCloud and including Peppy Hare and Pigma Dengar, were sent to stop his evil plot. They were betrayed by Pigma and Peppy barely escaped. He returned and told the son of James, Fox, about what had happened. A few years later, the evil Andross once again threatens to take over the Lylat System. Fox takes up the mantle as leader of the Star Fox team, along with Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, and Falco Lombardi, in the hopes to defeat the madman once and for all. Continue reading “Star Fox 64”

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 is a third person shooter horror game for Windows, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3. I played the PS3 version a while ago so forgive my lack of details in places. Also, seeing as this is the second game in the series, the story carries over from the first game. You could try to get a synopsis from the in-game movie that recaps the first game, but even then you might be lost. So, if you’re like me, you decided the important thing was shooting monsters and started playing. Continue reading “Dead Space 2”

Jet Force Gemini

Jet Force Gemini is a blending of first person shooting and 3D platforming elements in a game by Rareware for the Nintendo 64. The Jet Force gets attacked by giant bug soldiers and are forced to abandon their base ship via their smaller, personal ships. You take control of Juno (a guy) and head out in search of your friends Vela (a girl) and Lupus (a dog). On your journey, you learn that the insects that infested your ship are minions of Mizar, a larger, more evil bug that has been causing all kinds of trouble this side of the galaxy. He has even enslaved the Tribals, a bearlike race, to do his work for profit. Can you and your friends save the Tribals and stop Mizar? Continue reading “Jet Force Gemini”
