Doom 64

Doom 64 is a first-person shooter developed by Id Software and distributed by Midway for the Nintendo 64. I’m going to assume you have already played Doom, seen my review of it, or know enough about it to avoid going over all of the basics. It was a largely popular game that has been ported to nearly every device imaginable. You might think that Doom 64 is just a Nintendo 64 port of Doom, much like the SNES port or the Playstation’s port The Ultimate Doom. However, this is more akin to something like the Playstation’s Final Doom in that it’s a game based on the Doom engine with all-new levels. Though, unlike Final Doom, it’s considered a spinoff. Doom II: Hell on Earth

Doom II: Hell on Earth is the first-person shooter sequel to Doom on MS DOS. This review will assume you either know about the first Doom or have seen my previous review on that game. The events here pick up where the first game left off. You’re finally back home after fighting your way through Hell, only to find that the demons have taken over Earth. It’s up to you to save humanity, seal the door to Hell, and stop these monsters from ever coming back. Continue reading “Doom II: Hell on Earth”

Doom

Doom is a first-person shooter developed by Id Software for MS DOS. It’s one of the most popular and important first-person shooters out there. I doubt you’ve never heard of it. It has been ported tons of times, played on many devices, and still seems to stand the test of time. It wasn’t the first first-person shooter, but it’s definitely one of the first ones to come to mind when you think of the genre. So what is it about this game that makes it so damn appealing? Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is the third Castlevania installment on the Nintendo DS. This game follows the same gameplay style of 2D adventure platformers commonly known as metroidvania. This review assumes you either know about such games already or have at least seen previous reviews I’ve made in the series. Most of the main gameplay ideas are carried over here with abilities, exploration, relics and the like. The basic plot (which I will now butcher with terrible details of understanding) is that this group of people, the Order of Ecclesia, have been training two promising youths to be able to absorb these powerful magical symbols called glyphs. The idea is that one day soon Dracula will return, but the one with the power of the Dominus glyphs will be able to defeat him. During the training, you, Shanoa, are chosen to house Dominus. The other, Albus, leaves in a jealous rage and pursues the glyphs himself. So it’s up to you to track him down and find Dominus before he does so that you can defeat Dracula. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is the 3DS sequel to the GameCube game Luigi’s Mansion. Since this was the first one I played I’m going to probably be explaining things that are common sense to fans of the first. I apologize for not knowing what’s new and what’s old. The main plot of the game is that the ghosts have stolen pieces of the dark moon and hidden them, using the power to open a portal to another dimension where they can bring in more ghosts. This is a problem because it’s creating a dimensional imbalance that could collapse your dimension. So Professor E. Gadd has once again recruited Luigi, armed with a new and improved version of the ghost-sucking vacuum the Poltergust 5000, to help capture the ghosts so they can reassemble the dark moon and restore balance. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is a metroidvania game for Nintendo DS. The main story is basically that you have to control two characters trying to unlock the power of the Vampire Killer whip, defeat the evil vampire in Dracula’s Castle, and keep the evil creatures from resurrecting Dracula himself.
