Alien Carnage

Alien Carnage is a 2D run and gun platformer for MS DOS. The basic plot is that aliens have landed on Earth and are turning humans into zombies that they can use for slave labor to take over the world. It’s up to you, Halloween Harry, to infiltrate their defenses, save the hostages, and defeat their leader. Continue reading “Alien Carnage”

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 is a third-person shooter horror game for Windows, Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3. I played the PS3 version a while ago so forgive my lack of details in places. Also, seeing as this is the second game in the series, the story carries over from the first game. You could try to get a synopsis from the in-game movie that recaps the first game, but even then you might be lost. So, if you’re like me, you decided the important thing was shooting monsters and started playing. Continue reading “Dead Space 2”

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is a 2D metroidvania style game and the final installment of the Castlevania Game Boy Advance trilogy. To catch up for this third and final part, you can check out the first one, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, and the second one, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. I’ll assume you’ve read both of those reviews by now and are up to speed, not that they are really connected story-wise. Aria of Sorrow once again takes a darker approach to things. Your whole goal is to escape Dracula’s Castle. Continue reading “Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow”

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance is a 2D metroidvania game and the second in the trilogy of Castlevania games for Game Boy Advance. If you want to know more about the basics, check out my review on Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, as that is the first in the trilogy. This is essentially part two of three. Harmony of Dissonance is more influenced by Symphony of the Night than the other two in the trilogy. Many features and aesthetics are very similar between them and it shows just how capable a system the GBA really is. Continue reading “Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance”

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a metroidvania style 2D platformer and the first in the Game Boy Advance trilogy of Castlevania games. That means this is basically a part one of three reviews. For those who are unaware, the metroidvania style was made popular mostly by Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It basically has to do with exploring a large world, getting items and gaining levels to power up, and using new items and abilities to further access the world. Circle of the Moon takes a bit of a darker approach to the style of Symphony of the Night. Continue reading “Castlevania: Circle of the Moon”
