Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is a 2D platformer for the Game Boy. It is an entry in the Mario series as well as the sequel to Super Mario Land which is also on the Game Boy. The basic story is that during the events of Super Mario Land, Wario has taken over Mario’s castle. The door to the castle is locked and can only be opened by inserting six golden coins into it. To obtain these coins, Mario must travel to various themed zones, complete the levels, and defeat the six major bosses of the game. With the six golden coins in hand, Mario must storm the castle and reclaim what is his. Continue reading “Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins”

Super Mario Land

Super Mario Land is a 2D platformer in the Mario series for the Game Boy. There may be a more complex plot in the manual, but I don’t have that so the main plot of the game itself seems to be that you, Mario, are trying to save Daisy. That’s uh… that about all I could gather, but that’s really all you need. Save the damsel in distress. Simple enough. Continue reading “Super Mario Land”

Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 is a 3D platformer for the Nintendo 64. Princess Peach invites Mario over to her castle to have some cake. Upon his arrival, Mario is informed that Bowser has kidnapped the princess and stolen the power stars, trapping everyone within the castle walls and entrusting the power stars to his minions. It’s up to Mario to jump into various paintings to enter the many worlds within the castle, recover the stars to unlock the doors, defeat Bowser, and save Princess Peach. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is a crossover role-playing game of the Mario & Luigi series and Paper Mario series for the Nintendo 3DS. I’d like to acknowledge upfront that while I have played Paper Mario and most of Super Paper Mario, I’ve not played any of the Mario & Luigi games so my viewpoint might be considerably different than long-time fans of both. Now the story of this game is rather simple, but let me try to explain it so that it makes sense. Basically, Luigi (from the Mario & Luigi universe) stumbles across a magical book that contains the Paper Mario universe and accidentally knocks it open. This unleashes many of the Paper Mario universe’s inhabitants to spread across the land. You can find normal and paper versions of many characters, including Peach, Bowser, and even Mario! The like-minded character clones team up to make the most of the situation. The Bowsers kidnap the Peaches and plan to take over the Mario & Luigi world while the Bowser Juniors work to keep the book safe to ensure they never have to part with one another. So it’s up to Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario to team up and take down all the baddies. Like I said, it’s a simple plot. Continue reading “Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam”

Mario Kart 7

Mario Kart 7 is a Mario-themed combat racing game for the Nintendo 3DS. As the title would suggest, this is the seventh installment in the series. However, since this is the first one I’ve actually reviewed so far, I think I should try to explain a bit about what the Mario Kart series is known for. If you already have a good idea, I suppose you can skip the next section. Also note that at the time of writing this review I’ve not played Mario Kart DS nor any Mario Kart games past 7. If you’re still here, then let’s a-go! Continue reading “Mario Kart 7”

Paper Mario

Paper Mario is a role-playing game for the Nintendo 64. You’ll notice this is a rarity as the N64 has very few RPGs. The basic plot is that Bowser has stolen a magical item, the Star Rod, which grants wishes. He uses it to make himself invincible and kidnaps Princess Peach. Mario is unable to stop him, and Bowser takes the princess, along with her entire castle, and brings them up to float in space. Mario must set out on a journey to rescue the stars of Star Haven and become powerful enough to save Peach and defeat Bowser. Continue reading “Paper Mario”
