Fantasy Life

Fantasy Life is an action role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS. This is game that takes a somewhat different approach to an otherwise standard RPG along with free flowing combat. I’d rather not spoil the story for you because it’s a large part of the game, as is the case with most RPGs, but I’ll try and give you what I remember of the starting plot from when I started it up all those hours ago. Pokémon X

Pokémon X is a role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS. It is another installment to the Pokémon series by Nintendo, so I’ll be assuming you’ve either seen my Pokémon Blue review or know about Pokémon in general by this point. Feel free to get up to speed because this is going to be long enough without repeating a lot of the basics in detail. I was a little burnt out on the series after playing Pokémon White, but I decided to give this one an honest shot because it looked pretty good. Continue reading “Pokémon X”

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is a crossover role-playing game of the Mario & Luigi series and Paper Mario series for the Nintendo 3DS. I’d like to acknowledge upfront that while I have played Paper Mario and most of Super Paper Mario, I’ve not played any of the Mario & Luigi games so my viewpoint might be considerably different than long-time fans of both. Now the story of this game is rather simple, but let me try to explain it so that it makes sense. Basically, Luigi (from the Mario & Luigi universe) stumbles across a magical book that contains the Paper Mario universe and accidentally knocks it open. This unleashes many of the Paper Mario universe’s inhabitants to spread across the land. You can find normal and paper versions of many characters, including Peach, Bowser, and even Mario! The like-minded character clones team up to make the most of the situation. The Bowsers kidnap the Peaches and plan to take over the Mario & Luigi world while the Bowser Juniors work to keep the book safe to ensure they never have to part with one another. So it’s up to Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario to team up and take down all the baddies. Like I said, it’s a simple plot. Continue reading “Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam”

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is the third Castlevania installment on the Nintendo DS. This game follows the same gameplay style of 2D adventure platformers commonly known as metroidvania. This review assumes you either know about such games already or have at least seen previous reviews I’ve made in the series. Most of the main gameplay ideas are carried over here with abilities, exploration, relics and the like. The basic plot (which I will now butcher with terrible details of understanding) is that this group of people, the Order of Ecclesia, have been training two promising youths to be able to absorb these powerful magical symbols called glyphs. The idea is that one day soon Dracula will return, but the one with the power of the Dominus glyphs will be able to defeat him. During the training, you, Shanoa, are chosen to house Dominus. The other, Albus, leaves in a jealous rage and pursues the glyphs himself. So it’s up to you to track him down and find Dominus before he does so that you can defeat Dracula. Sword of Hope II

Sword of Hope II is a primitive role-playing game for the Game Boy. I assume this is the sequel to Sword of Hope, but I honestly know nothing of the series. I simply picked up this game on the Nintendo eShop on my 3DS because it looked charmingly primitive. And it is. The main story, as I understand it, is that an evil monster which was supposed to be sealed away in the previous game has been let loose and threatens the land once more. It’s up to you, Prince Theo, and your party of heroes to gather the magical orbs and take down the evil beast. Continue reading “Sword of Hope II”

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is a metroidvania game for Nintendo DS. The main story is basically that you have to control two characters trying to unlock the power of the Vampire Killer whip, defeat the evil vampire in Dracula’s Castle, and keep the evil creatures from resurrecting Dracula himself. Continue reading “Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin”
